Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Site Engineer to oversee and coordinate mechanical works for water and wastewater infrastructure projects in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The role will cover pipeline networks, pumping stations, reservoirs, valves, pumps, and associated mechanical systems, ensuring that construction activities comply with approved drawings, technical specifications, quality standards, HSE requirements, and project schedules.

The Mechanical Site Engineer will provide hands-on site supervision and technical coordination across mechanical installations, testing, commissioning, quality documentation, materials management, and subcontractor activities. The position requires close collaboration with civil, electrical, QA/QC, HSE, technical office, consultant, supplier, and subcontractor teams.

Key Responsibilities

Site Execution & Supervision

  • Supervise installation of water distribution networks, wastewater networks, transmission pipelines, force mains, gravity sewer lines, valve chambers, meter chambers, air valve chambers, washout chambers, and service connections.
  • Monitor installation of pipes, valves, fittings, pumps, mechanical equipment, supports, flanges, flexible joints, and associated systems.
  • Ensure compliance with approved drawings, technical specifications, installation procedures, alignment requirements, flow directions, and burial depths.
  • Monitor site activities and project progress against approved schedules.
  • Coordinate and supervise subcontractor mechanical works.

Technical Review & Coordination

  • Review mechanical drawings, shop drawings, technical submittals, and construction documents.
  • Identify design conflicts, site constraints, and technical issues.
  • Coordinate technical solutions with project teams and consultants.
  • Support preparation of Requests for Information (RFIs).
  • Prepare and review material take-offs and as-built documentation.

Materials & Equipment Management

  • Inspect and monitor delivery, storage, handling, and installation of mechanical materials and equipment.
  • Verify materials against approved technical submittals, quality certifications, and project specifications.
  • Identify and reject non-conforming or damaged materials when necessary.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and subcontractors regarding mechanical equipment and materials.

Pumping Stations & Mechanical Equipment

  • Supervise installation of pumps, suction and discharge piping, non-return valves, isolation valves, instrumentation, lifting systems, and other mechanical equipment.
  • Coordinate with electrical and control teams to ensure proper mechanical, electrical, and control system integration.
  • Ensure equipment installations are prepared for testing and commissioning.

Testing & Commissioning

  • Supervise hydrostatic, pressure, and leakage testing activities.
  • Coordinate flushing and disinfection activities.
  • Participate in pre-commissioning and commissioning of pumps, valves, pipelines, and mechanical systems.
  • Monitor pressure, flow, vibration, noise, and equipment performance.
  • Record testing results and coordinate corrective actions where required.

Quality Assurance & Documentation

  • Prepare and submit Inspection Requests (IRs).
  • Support QA/QC inspections and quality verification activities.
  • Maintain records of testing activities, completed works, and installed quantities.
  • Prepare daily and weekly progress reports.
  • Assist with final handover documentation.
  • Support preparation and compilation of test certificates, operation and maintenance manuals, and as-built drawings.

Health, Safety & Environment

  • Ensure compliance with project HSE requirements during excavation, lifting, confined-space, pressure-testing, and pipeline installation activities.
  • Promote safe working practices across mechanical site activities.
  • Ensure appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Stop unsafe work activities and immediately report safety concerns.
  • Support the implementation of project safety procedures and requirements.

Requirements & Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
  • Proven experience with pipeline networks, pumping stations, reservoirs, valves, pumps, and mechanical installations.
  • Practical experience in hydrostatic testing, flushing, disinfection, commissioning, and mechanical construction activities.
  • Experience supervising pipeline and pumping station installations.
  • Experience managing subcontractors and monitoring project progress against schedules.

Technical Skills

  • Strong understanding of mechanical drawings, shop drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Knowledge of water and wastewater infrastructure construction practices.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical installation, testing, and commissioning procedures.
  • Ability to coordinate mechanical works with civil, electrical, QA/QC, and HSE teams.
  • Strong site management and problem-solving capabilities.
