Job Overview

A telecommunications project in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia is seeking an experienced Resident Engineer – Optical Transmission to supervise optical transport and transmission implementation within live Cable Landing Stations (CLS) and Data Centre (DC) environments. The position requires a hands-on field engineering professional capable of coordinating implementation activities while maintaining operational continuity.

The successful candidate will bring extensive experience in optical and transmission implementation, contractor and vendor supervision, fibre routing, ODF/MMR termination, and advanced optical testing and acceptance. Strong knowledge of OTDR, IL, ORL, CD, PMD, and OSNR testing is essential, along with the ability to manage NCRs, punch-list closure, site reporting, and MOP/PTW coordination.

This 12-month contract provides an opportunity to work on critical telecommunications infrastructure in Saudi Arabia and strengthen expertise in optical transmission, data centre infrastructure, cable landing stations, testing and commissioning, contractor management, and live-network implementation. Key Responsibilities

• Supervise optical transport and transmission implementation within live Cable Landing Stations and Data Centres.
• Coordinate and supervise contractors and equipment vendors during field implementation.
• Monitor rack installation, power arrangements, fibre routing, and related infrastructure activities.
• Supervise ODF/MMR fibre termination and associated implementation works.
• Conduct and oversee optical transmission testing and acceptance activities.
• Perform or coordinate OTDR, Insertion Loss (IL), Optical Return Loss (ORL), Chromatic Dispersion (CD), Polarization Mode Dispersion (PMD), and Optical Signal-to-Noise Ratio (OSNR) testing.
• Review test results and ensure compliance with project acceptance requirements.
• Raise and manage Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs).
• Drive punch-list identification, tracking, and closure.
• Prepare accurate site progress and engineering reports.
• Coordinate Method of Procedure (MOP) activities.
• Coordinate Permit to Work (PTW) requirements.
• Ensure implementation activities are performed safely within live operational environments.
• Coordinate with project stakeholders to minimize any risk of disruption to live services.
• Monitor contractor and vendor performance and ensure adherence to technical requirements.
• Support testing, commissioning, handover, and acceptance activities.

Requirements & Qualifications

• 8+ years of field experience in optical/transmission implementation.
• Minimum 3 years of experience supervising contractors and vendors.
• Proven experience working in Cable Landing Station (CLS) and Data Centre (DC) environments.
• Strong knowledge of:

• Strong contractor and vendor coordination skills.
• Fluent English and Arabic.
