An opportunity is available for an experienced Backend/API Engineer in Louisville, Kentucky, focused on building and supporting enterprise-grade APIs, middleware, and backend services. The successful candidate will work across technologies including Java, Golang or Python, RESTful API development, Apigee, OpenAPI, OAuth 2.0, JWT, API gateways, traffic management, and cloud platforms. Experience with emerging technologies such as MCP Servers, JSON-RPC, and context engineering is also relevant to this role.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain enterprise-grade backend services and APIs.
• Develop and implement RESTful APIs using Java, Golang, Python, or related technologies.
• Manage API lifecycle and API management solutions using Apigee and Apigee Hybrid.
• Develop and maintain API specifications using Swagger and OpenAPI.
• Implement secure API authentication and authorization using OAuth 2.0 and JWT.
• Configure and manage API gateways, rate limiting, and traffic management.
• Work with MCP Servers, JSON-RPC, and context engineering technologies.
• Use Postman for API testing and validation.
• Work with JSON and YAML-based configurations and data structures.
• Support CI/CD pipelines and cloud-based application environments.
• Work across AWS, Azure, and/or Google Cloud Platform.
• Contribute to API governance and enterprise integration initiatives.
• Support API catalogs and developer portals where required.
• Implement observability and monitoring practices for APIs and backend services.
• Collaborate with engineering and technology teams to deliver scalable enterprise solutions.

Requirements & Qualifications

• 8–10 years of professional experience in backend engineering, API engineering, or a related field.
• Strong experience with Core Java / Java, Golang, or Python.
• Proven experience in RESTful API design and development.
• Hands-on experience with Apigee, API Management, and/or Apigee Hybrid.
• Strong knowledge of Swagger and OpenAPI.
• Experience with OAuth 2.0, JWT, and API security.
• Understanding of API Gateway, rate limiting, and traffic management.
• Experience with MCP Servers, JSON-RPC, and context engineering is preferred.
• Proficiency with Postman, JSON, and YAML.
• Experience with CI/CD practices and cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, and GCP.
• Knowledge of API governance and API catalogs is advantageous.
• Experience with developer portals and enterprise integration patterns is preferred.
• Familiarity with Okta, Azure AD, ForgeRock, or Ping is advantageous.
• Knowledge of observability and relational databases is beneficial.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and collaboration skills.
